It is with great sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved friend, brother, bass player and vocalist, Jesse Luca. Jesse passed just recently after a sudden and massive heart attack. We'll all miss him individually and as a group. Jesse was the heart and soul of The Silver and we each had a special bond with him. Jesse had a unique ability to lay down the right groove for any genre of music and as the heartbeat of the band his bass and vocals spanned a wide range of styles. Jesse was also a talented drummer and keyboard player.
He will be sorely missed but his energy and spirit will continue among us as we take this time to honor his memory. Jesse’s voice will always be a part of every song from The Silver. We loved him. Jesse is survived by his wife Denise and son and daughter. He only recently experienced the birth of grandson Jack. Our deepest sympathies and most sincere condolences go out to his beautiful family and other friends who knew Jesse well and loved him. Rest in peace, brother.
From drummer in The Silver, Barry Portnoy:
Musicians share a special bond with each other. Through your music that you create together you are sharing a part of your soul. Jesse Luca not only showed me his through his music, but during those moments together on our breaks at practice sessions. I couldn't wait to hear what new story Jesse had to tell. When I was getting to know him, he would come up to me, grab my arm and get right up in my face to talk to me. He would start off by apologizing for getting so close, but he would say he was too blind to see me otherwise. My first response to him was, " Not being able to see me so well could work in your favor ". I will forever miss our conversations and Jesse hanging on to me, but I will never forget them. I choose to use the present tense and say, you are one hell of a human being buddy.
